The tax amount shows as GST/HST on our website but the tax amount charged is based on where you are located.
  • What items does Onefinity recommend purchasing?
We get many questions asking what we recommend in terms of machine, wasteboard, bits, router, software, monitor etc. We’ll try to answer that in this FAQ. There are more advanced answers (and workarounds) to some of these points, but this is the easiest, general, beginner friendly, answers we can give. Machine Let’s start with the machine. We’d always recommended getting the largest one you can fit. You can always cut smaller pieces on a larger machine, but (generally) you cannot cut larger on a smaller machine. Try to buy your second cnc first Our largest working area is the Elite Foreman. It has a 48"x48" cutting area. If you can fit it in your work space, this is the best ‘bang for your buck’! https://www.onefinitycnc.com/cnc-machines 11 Frame/Wasteboard Our machines do not come with a base. The Onefinity was designed to attach to any flat surface. For over a year, every machine was just bolted to a table. In our second year, we released the QCW (quick change wasteboard). This allows users the option to get a ‘all in one’ type of frame. It also has built in t-track slots for easy clamping of material. It makes aligning and setting up the machine a breeze as it’s has a notched mounting system allowing for simple alignment right out of the box. The QCW alone is designed to simply sit on a flat surface. We also have a rolling/folding leg kit that attaches to the QCW. (sold separately). These rolling/folding leg kit provides a very solid stand for your Onefinity. It takes place of the user needing to build or provide a table for the Onefinity machine. With the QCW and rolling/folding leg kit, you can be up and running in less than an hour! The kit is perfect for small shops where having a dedicated space for your CNC isn’t practical, as you can fold up the Onefinity and tuck it into a corner when not in use to gain back your valuable working space. We’d recommend purchasing the matching QCW and rolling folding leg kit for simplicity and ease of use. The QCW and Rolling folding leg kit is optional and not required for operation of the Onefinity. If you don’t want to go with t-track or the qcw, our friend Myers Woodshop 7 has created an awesome system for threaded insert wasteboard. Check it out here: Myers Woodshop Wasteboard Fence and Clamps MEGA Pack Every | Etsy 26 QCW: (get the matching size for your machine): https://www.onefinitycnc.com/accessories 32 Secure from above vs below info: Secure from above vs secure from below 7 Rolling/Folding leg kit: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/product-page/rolling-folding-stand-leg-kit 8 Cable Extensions – If you are planning to move the controller and depending on how your work area is setup, you may need longer cables to connect to the controller. These extensions do just that, extend the wires, they do not replace them. They go between the controller and current wires. You will need a set of cables for each rail. They are sold in packs of 2, so to do the whole machine (that has 4 wire) you will need two 2 packs. We do have 2’ and 4’ options available on our website https://www.onefinitycnc.com/accessories 32 Router The Onefinity comes standard with a 65mm mount (65mm is the sized hole to accept the router). The router it was designed to work with the Makita RT0701C Trim Router (North American version). Purchase one here: (Amazon) 6 or (Home Depot) 3 Other routers can possibly work if they have a 65mm body to fit in the router mount. Screen We feel its best to get a screen with your Onefinity. We sell a 7", 8", and 10" (some may go in and out of stock as inventory permits). We recommend purchasing one of ours with the Onefinity. We’ve written a pretty extensive faq about screens. Check that out here. What screens can I use with the Onefinity CNC 32 Bits The Onefinity does not come with any bits, but a bit is required for use. We sell many here: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/accessories 32 We feel a good selection is a 1/4 upcut/downcut endmill, 1/8 upcut/downcut endmill, one v bit, and a ball nose bit. There’s way to many variations to go into great detail here, but the internet has an overwhelming amount of information on bits. Dust Boot Since we’re born from the Suck IT Dust boot, we couldn’t give out recommendations without mentioning dust collection! While you can run your machine without it, we strongly feel the Suck It dust boot is an essential part of the Onefinity CNC. It’s safer for your health and better for your machine to always run with dust collection. You can get one here: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/product-page/onefinity-suckit-dust-boot-basic 7 Software While you do not need a computer to run files on the Onefinity CNC, you will need design software to make those files. We have an extensive write up here: What CAD/CAM software can be used to make gcode files for the Onefinity CNC 49 Joypad The joypad, while not essential, is recommended by most users of the Onefinity CNC. A joypad makes moving the machine much simpler and more elegant. We don’t run our machines in house without one You can get one here: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/product-page/onefinity-joystick 5 Touchprobe Just like a joypad, the touch probe is not essential. However, most users of the Onefinity CNC will recommend purchasing it. It makes zeroing your material much easier and more precisive. This is definitely a recommended purchase. You can get it here: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/product-page/onefinity-3-axis-touch-probe 6 Laser Onefinity is one of the few CNC machines to support a laser out of the box. This turns your CNC machine into a laser as well. We recommend a laser to add to your toolbox! You can get one here: https://www.onefinitycnc.com/product-page/onefinity-7w-laser 30 While most of the items we’ve listed are not required to use the Onefinity CNC, they definitely make the experience either quicker, more convenient, or more user friendly. We hope this helps!

  • Do I need extension wires?
Onefinity Extension wires are made to extend the factory wires. They go between the controller and factory wires. They are not wire replacements. The wires are sold in packs of 2. To extend all the factory wires on a machine, you will need to purchase two packs of wire extensions (for a total of 4 wire extensions). When in doubt, we recommend ordering a pack of extensions. You can purchase them here: (2 foot long) (4 foot long)
  • What materials can I cut on a Onefinity CNC?
Since the Onefinity is designed to use the Makita router, anything you can cut with the trim router can be cut on the Onefinity. While different types of materials can be cut, each one will require its own specific tooling and applicable feeds, speeds, rpms, and depth of cut. Some materials will cut much faster (wood) than others (metal). Machinable Materials include: Hardwoods such as Maple, Ash, Basswood, Birch, Cherry, Walnut, Poplar, and Oak Softwoods such as Pine, Cedar, Balsa and Fir Plywood such as Baltic Burch, Maple, Oak, Pine and Sheathing. Plastics such as ABS, Delrin (Acetal), Polycarbonate (PC), Acrylic (PMMA), Nylon, HDPE, LDPE, PP, PET, and PVC, Polyethylene and Polyurethanes Synthetics & composites such as Renshape and other Polyurethane resins with fillers, as well as Carbon Fiber and foams Brick, Granite, Rock Non-Ferrous (soft) metals such as Aluminum, Brass, and Copper can be machined as well. What cant a Onefinity cut? Hard metals such as Iron, Steel, Tungsten, Titanium, Etc. While you may be able to cut them, it will be extremely slow and only for the advanced user. Generally, a smaller machine is preferred (machinist) to carve metals. Due to physics, with a reduced rail span, the smaller sized machines are more ridged and more capable of carving metals. The longer the span, the more flex a machine may have (we’re still talking .001"). No hobby CNC is designed to cut hardened metals. A plasma cutter or water jet are more suitable for these applications. **Please note: While these materials may be machinable, some materials produce toxic dust that can do damage to your lungs and overall health (like carbon fiber). Please use proper protection and correct PPE when carving these materials.
  • Where does my order ship from? Do you have a distributor in my Country?
We are based out of Toronto, Canada. Every machine is sold and shipped from Canada. We do not have any distributors.
  • How do I transfer the 1 year warranty if I sell/buy a used machine?
In the event you sell or purchase a used machine, the original purchaser must contact us and give permission to transfer the warranty to the new owner. The original purchaser must provide the new owners name, address, phone number, and email address. In the event that a user purchases a used machine but the original purchaser has not contacted us the warranty will not be transferred. This is due to privacy laws. The warranty start date is from when the original purchaser was shipped their machine. It does not start over when a user purchases a used machine. It is important that a user inspects the machine and has the original purchaser contact us to transfer the warranty before a transaction is made. If, for some unknown reason, a user is selling an 'sealed' unused unit, it is imperative that that original owner opens the box to confirm the contents are present within 30 days of receiving the machine. If something is missing or damaged outside of the 30 days and it was unnoticed due to the purchaser not opening and confirming the contents, the loss will not be covered by Onefinity.

  • What's the differences between the X-35 rails and X-50 rails?
The X # refers to the diameter of the tubes. There’s some confusion that it is the length. X-50 are 50mm diameter tubes at 6mm wall thickness. X-35 is 35mm diameter tubes at 5mm wall thickness. The thicker the tube, the more rigid and heavy the rails are. When compared to the X-35 (original) rails, the X-50 comes with a larger Stepper Motor with up to 40% more torque, and a 1616 (vs a 1610 original) Ball Screw that delivers 60% more speed with no change to the motor settings. The X-50 comes in 2 different sizes: Woodworker (32’), Jorneyman (48") The X-35 comes in 2 different sizes: Machinist (16"), Woodworker (32") (X-50 rail on left : X-35 rail on the right)
  • What is the accuracy and repeatability of the Onefinity CNC?
.005-.001 (inch) is the expected accuracy. Many outside factors can affect this. Features up to 256 micro stepping and 250k steps/second on each motor output. Homing: Elite machines: Homing is accurate to microns. Non-Elite machines: Homing is accurate up to 1mm.
  • What screens can I use with the Onefinity CNC?
Specifics on the Onefinity screen requirements: There is nothing special about the screen used on the Onefinity CNC. It is simply a small sized monitor/tv that has touch input. It’s no different than the TV you have in your home, in fact, you could even use your home tv as the screen for the Onefinity! The only requirements for the screen is that is has an hdmi input, it is powered on before turning on the controller, and for screens/monitors/TV's that have multiple inputs, the correct source must be chosen (ie: if the Onefinity is plugged into hdmi 1, hdmi 1 must be chosen as the source.) The Onefinity will not plug into a laptop or computer hdmi port (Laptops/computers are an OUTPUT ONLY port). DRIVERS: You will never install any ‘drivers’ to make touch work on the Onefinity. If you have a touchscreen specific monitor, you should simply connect it via hdmi (for video), wall outlet (for power), and an usb connection to the Onefinity controller. Again, turn on the screen for 10 seconds BEFORE powering up the controller. The ‘touch’ part should work, if it does not, the touch screen is incompatible with the Onefinity. ’TOUCH’ Requirement: You are not required to use a touch screen monitor. If you choose to use a tv/screen/monitor that does not have touch capabilities, simply plug in any usb mouse/keyboard for use as input. Again, no software/drivers is required for these devices to work. They must be plugged into the controller before turning on the controller. Tablets (IPAD/IPHONE/AMAZON FIRE/ ETC): A real tablet (such as a iPad or amazon fire tablet) cannot be directly connected via hdmi to be used as a screen. This is because the tablet is a computer and the Onefinity controller is a computer, and you cannot directly connect one computer to another. Also, the ipad and other such tablets do NOT have an HDMI input port. Connection to wifi: You can, however, control it via a networked computing device through web browser (Microsoft edge, apple safari on mac or ipad/iphone, google chrome, etc.). The only issue with this is that you will need to have some sort of screen connected to configure the wifi first. Once the wifi is configured, you can disconnect the temporary screen and connect via a remote computer from now on. Video to do so is here: Connecting The Onefinity CNC To A Network Direct connection to a computer: The Onefinity does not have the ability to directly connect to a computer via a usb to usb cord. You can, however, connect directly to the controller using a ethernet cord. Visit this FAQ for more details: How to directly connect your Onefinity CNC to a computer/laptop (no screen present) Users of Inventables Easel might be confused by this since Easel thinks this is required. Please refer to this FAQ to understand why: Creating a file in Inventables Easel The above does not apply to ELITE Series machines.
  • Can I use a iPad as the screen for my Onefinity?
Tablets (IPAD/IPHONE/AMAZON FIRE/ ETC): A real tablet (such as a iPad or amazon fire tablet) cannot be directly connected via hdmi to be used as a screen. This is because the tablet is a computer and the Onefinity controller is a computer, and you cannot directly connect one computer to another. Also, the ipad and other such tablets do NOT have an HDMI input port.
  • Should I get the Makita router or a dedicated spindle?
This faq is directed at new users to cnc routers. Often, we get asked, which should I get, the Makita router or a spindle? This faq is designed to help answer that question for you. Each individual can come to a different conclusion. There is no one right answer. Onefinity does not sell a router, spindle or ATC. Makita Router Example ($89 us): Huanyang Spindle Example ($349 us): Our official recommendation is to start off with the Makita router. When starting off with cnc, there’s so much to learn. Some of which includes: RPMS Feed Rate Stepover Depth of Cut Bit selection CAD design Toolpath design Material specifics Material hold down/clamping gcode commands Etc. That’s a lot of things to figure out all at once! Adding a spindle to the equation compounds the learning curve. Benefits Makita: Pros: Cheap. Can be found for less than $99us Simple to use. Commonly found at big box stores locally. Brushes are cheap. Can be used as a hand router when not in use on the CNC. 110v can be run on any household outlet. Onefinity tech support. Manufacturer Warranty/ Easy store return. Cons: Loud (around 80-100 dbs) ‘Dirty electrical signal’ can affect the CNC or other devices (EMI) Short power cord (not drag chain friendly) Brushes (consumable part) will only last so many hours until they need to be changed. Speed is controlled by dial on router. On/off is controlled by switch on router. RPM range is smaller compared to spindles (affects metal more than wood). Cannot be controlled by gcode. Shorter Lifespan when compared to a spindle. only 1/4 and 1/8 shanked bits can be used. Larger runout. Spindle: Pros: Quiet (from 50-80 dbs) No consumable parts (like brushes) Wider RPM range (more for metal) Longer life expectancy Can be controlled by Gcode (speed/on, off) Larger collets available, such as 1/2 sized bits can be used. Smaller ‘runout’ of bit (tool spin offset error). Run ‘cooler’ so can be run much longer time periods. Cons: No Onefinity support Larger physical size. Cost is 4x or more than the Makita Router. Not locally sourced. Generally, Chinese with poor documentation. Ensure you purchase from a reputable seller. Requires electrical knowledge of 110v and 220v wiring (you must wire these yourself to the vfd and wall power (potentially life threatening if done incorrectly). Requires a VFD (power inverter) and knowledge of programming the parameters (not offered by Onefinity support). Some are water cooled. Will add more wires to manage (in and outlet water tubes). A potential to spill liquid onto the machine or electronics. Liquid can also freeze in nonconditioned air workspaces. Requires the optional ‘breakout board’ Some require a 220v power outlet which is not a common household outlet in NA. Warranty could be tricky dealing with Chinese brands. Operational Differences: Here’s what the process looks like to a new user when using either a spindle or the Makita router for the first time. Router: Unbox the router. Remove the plunge base. Place the router body in the z slider. Tighten the z slider mount. Plug in the router cord to your regular wall outlet. Load the gcode program. Zero xyz. Turn on router with the switch. Rotate rpm dial to proper speed setting for you file. Press play. Spindle: Unbox router. Unbox VFD. Order correct gauge, shielded, and flexible wire from vfd to spindle. Order correct gauge and plug type from vfd to wall outlet. Solder, crimp, and install wire from vfd to spindle. Solder, crimp, and install wire from vfd to wall plug. These must be correct or the vfd and spindle will not work, or worse, possibly harm the machine or yourself. Install optional breakout board to the Onefinity Controller. Run correct wire type and size from vfd to breakout board ports. Go through and program all the correct parameters on the VFD. These must be correct or the vfd and spindle will not work, or worse, possibly harm the machine or yourself. Ensure your gcode has on off commands for the spindle and the proper rpm has been set for the toolpath. Load the file. Zero xyz. Press Play. Conclusion: If you are a beginner or hobbyist and if you’re not confident about the electrical wiring required for a VFD, then choosing a router might be the way to go. The Makita is a solid and proven router. Spindles are the apt choice for CNC machines requiring heavy use. However, their setup complexity and cost can be off-putting to many. Routers and spindles have their unique benefits as well as downsides. To make a good choice between a router and a spindle, consider each factor discussed above and make a calculated choice. The biggest factor in our opinion is, Do you want Onefinity technical support? If so go the Makita. If support isn’t a big deal and you like tinkering or interacting with the community for assistance, a spindle may be the right choice. If you go with the Makita first then upgrade to a spindle later, you’re left with a great trim router that all woodshops need anyways, so there’s no wasted money! Notes: More info on the breakout board can be found here: Info on the Breakout Board Accessory
  • Which spindle mount (80mm or 65mm) should I choose?
Check out our detailed blog post about the difference between 80mm and 65mm Which spindle mount should I choose (a blog post)
  • I want to Wall Mount my Onefinity CNC. What do I need?
We only offer the wall mount system for the x-35 and x-50 woodworker and journeyman systems. We do not offer them for the machinist. Please note, due to the added weight, spindles will not work on a wall mounted machine. The makita router is recommended for wall mounted machines. You will need the correct size QCW frame that matches your machine: You will also need a wall mount system here: The wall mount system does NOT work with Elite Series Machines.
  • What are the differences between QCW secure from above and below?
Secure from above vs Secure from below: The “secure for above” has steel threaded PEMS installed giving you the ability to fasten the wasteboard without moving your Onefinity. The “secure from beneath” does not. Just .25" holes. The advantage to the latter is you do not have to perform custom machine, drilling, counter boring. You can simply go to Home depot and get them to cut the MDF up for you based on the provided dimensions. Once you get home all you need to do is screw it down. With the “secure from above” you’ll need to drill and counterbore the wasteboard based on the template we will provide. The ‘secure from below’ is MUCH easier and faster to do and requires almost no diy/woodworking know-how. The ‘secure from above’ will be much more brain power/technical as you need to align and drill/countersink your own holes (and there are many of them) that need to match up exactly with the PEMS in the frame. Basically, when in doubt, go for the underneath mount.
  • What is the recommended bolt and nut size for T-Track on the QCW

  • Is internet/wifi required to use a Onefinity CNC?
Some info concerning wifi/internet and the Onefinity CNC. The Onefinity 100% does NOT require wifi or internet. You will NEVER need to hook it up to the internet. Doing so is completely optional. There are three main reasons you’d want to be connected: You’ll be notified when there are updates to the controller that will contain bug fixes and potential upgrades The ability to control it via a networked device (i.e. phone, tablet, computer) The ability to view the webcam stream remotely. The last thing we want our customers to have is a brick of a machine. Connecting your Onefinity CNC to a Computer/Laptop (no touchscreen present) Please note: Before you start please make sure wifi is turned off on your computer/laptop (as you will be using an ethernet cable) Turn off internal wifi on your computer/laptop. Make sure that the emergency stop is disengaged/disabled 2a. If this is a brand new machine you will need to turn the emergency stop to get it to “pop-up” out if it’s stored position during shipping Connect up the included power cable to the 1F controller Connect up an ethernet cable with one end plugged into the 1F controller and the other connected to a laptop Turn on the power switch to the 1F controller and make sure the laptop is powered up to an available desktop view. 5a. You should be able to visually see lights on the ethernet port of the 1F controller and laptop at this point. Open up a web browser on the laptop and navigate to http://OneFinity.local 64 Important note: Ensure WiFi is turned off in your laptop. This should now provide local based access to your 1F allowing control without a touchscreen. For more info please check out this video:
